When You Start Thinking Everything Stinks ……..

It’s time to listen to some Dion.

Here’s Dion singing “I Wonder Why” just a couple years ago, live. He originally made the record with the Belmonts in 1958, when he was a teenager. I figure I’m just slightly older than the wheel, and Dion is a handful of years older than I. He still sings with laser precision.

As Dax would say, “Just Damn!”

  1. I met Dion once! He was really nice… Did I ever tell you that I dated a guy about 17-18 years ago (oy) whose hobby it was to hunt down celebrities and get their autographs? It was so lame, but I’ve met some pretty cool peeps (Dan Aykroyd, Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, etc). Joe would run up to them like a dork and ask them for their autograph while I snapped the photo. It’s embarrassing even to admit to this.

  2. Good stuff!!! I always take my Mom and Dad to the “Doo Wops” every summer at the Great Auditorium in The Grove.
They get everybody, Speedo and the Cadillacs, The Chantels, Frankie Valli…just all around great shows from bands that played music during a better time.
The Doo Wop section at Cleveland’s Rock n Roll Hall of Fame also is very good.
Thanks for this Jimbo…this is just great music.

  3. RR,

One of my great thrills was playing drums one night with the Coasters’ Show, and Speedo was singing with them at the time.

    Great stuff, indeed.

  6. I love Dion. I love his voice, his songs, his good heart. He was a bit before my time, and I actually came to know his music through his first Christian album… which is also very good music. But for sheer fun and cheer, nobody comes close.

Billy Joel wishes he were Dion. Fat chance.

  8. Eric,

In my day, you driving around in a ’51 Merc with Dion blasting from the speaker (there was only one), would have made you one badass. Especially if the car was primed.
