Since I turned 18, I have voted in every general and local election--including school board. On Tuesday, I voted in the primary (for Lonegan)for the first time. My concern is that the NJGOP is not taking the number of votes Mr. Lonegan received seriously. While the party regulars backed Mr. Christie, they don't seem to understand that a significant number of (very educated and politically knowledgeable) Independents changed their affiliations to support a more conservative candidate. As a born and bred New Jerseyan, I have a deep understanding of the machinations of the political system. The NJGOP is fronting a candidate who leans SLIGHTLY to the right to the front runner. While the November election may now seem to be a dog fight, it will probably turn out to be a pissing contest between two puppies.

Perhaps the voters of New Jersey are ready for a change. There is hope in change. May the best man win.

Jimbo,
I say to Corzine "go ahead and try to tie Christie to Bush". Hell, if unemployment, the markets, interest rates, the deficit all remain out of whack, the Bush legacy may look farookin' stellar.
Corzine is hoping that the voters suddenly gain political amnesia and conveniently forget that Corzine took us into the political porta pottie the last 3 years. He needs to hope that the Jersey voters suddenly forget the unemployment numbers, the budget messes, the revoking of rebates, the mass exodus of jobs out of state, the corruption and all of the other niceties that the Corzine Administration has wrought upon us.
My problem is...this is still Jersey and that graveyard on the Parkway by the old brewery is still an active voting precinct. NJ is very progressive in that the Jersey courts believe that just because the voter has died, the person, no matter how dead still maintains the right to vote.
I will not count any chickens til the court case is over. Oh yeah...unless Christie wins by more than 28%, there will be a recount in which we will find that Hudson and Union counties disenfranchised their voters and miraculously, the exact number of votes needed to beat Christie will be found in a "warehouse".
Christie needs to stay above the fray and keep repeating "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago"? He needs to keep hammering home about the job losses, the corruption (stay away from the Carla Katz thing, it will take care of itself through the blogosphere)and mostly keep talking about the corrupt politicians he has put in the grey bar motel.
Once he joins a desperate Corzine in going negative, he will lose any moral authority. He needs to be a positive uplifting alternative to the failed Democratic policies of the past.
I too supported Lonegan but Christie is our guy and he ain't that bad. I am writing a check to him today with my regards.

Thanks for the link, Jim.

I will admit to being worried about how well, with his unlimited bankroll, Corzine will be able to spread deception about his record and unjustly smear Christie.

Then again, with Joe Biden as his virtual "running mate" and with speeched filled with rants about George Bush and John Ashcroft, how can we lose?
