  3. I’ll never tell how many times I had to read that trying to imagine how one throws a mood. Although, I did pick up on the oiye=eye rather quickly.
Hey, it ain’t always easy trying to translate Joisey peeps tossing in some other language accent.

Especially with my half-Hungarian brain that grew up in Ohio but has spent the past 35 years simmering in the deep South.

and, after all that, Jimbo… enjoy whatever day it is! 😉

  7. Lee,
Pete Hamil summed up the basis of our current St Patty’s day in a couple of lines in North River. A father points out to his son that the great crowd of Irish parade straight down 5th Avenue in New York right past the mansions of the old line WASPs. He tells his son “it reminds them that they may have the money, but we have the votes”.
It used to be a huge political statement with a big helping of a thumb to the nose. The Irish assimilated and what’s left is the thumb to the nose attitude for a day.
Face it, we all love to cop that attitude from time to time and St Patty’s day gives us a one day license.
