The King of the New York Streets. UPDATED

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 2:01 pm

Stoked.

The Usual Suspects will be heading to the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank to see this guy. Yes!

Update: Dion was farookin’ fabulous. He did a load of his most popular songs and a few featuring just him and his acoustic guitar, which he plays quite well and always has, even though his guitar playing was not featured in the early days. The guy just turned seventy, and he sounds like he did when he was in his twenties. Oh, and his band also kicks some serious ass. It was a great concert.

The only bad part was the age of the audience members. I figure I’m not nearly as old as they are. 🙂

  2. “I’m the type of guy that likes to roam around
I’m never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin’ for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world
Yeah I’m the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
    I roam around around around…”

…I’m so jealous. Have fun, Jimbo!

  3. I love me some Dion!

I used to have one of his new Christian songs on my home answering machine, in the background of my message. People–strangers actually– from all over, like some precursor to YouTube, would call our phone just to hear Dion singing his new stuff. They’d leave sheepish messages apologizing for filling up my voice mail. . . er. . . cassette tape.

    Crap. I’m old!

  5. Yeah….I was a Dion fan way way back .always liked his stuff even when much of it was tailored for the teenaged female element. Anyway I was very surprised when his real talent emerged & quite impressed. I remember thinking then it would not be accepted…..sure as hell glad to have been wrong.

Anyway, what is so bad about pushing 70? I`ll be 70 years young next June & do not think 80 is particulary old anymore, body might disagree but what the hell does it know.

  6. Damn, I forgot one appropriate comment about us 60/70 year old rockers….. Remembering Elvis, Big Joe Turner & Bill Haley…..Shake Rattle & Roll was a hell of a song & we all danced to it …..Today we all do it for real! Reality is not all it is cracked up to be.
