Some Kickass Drumming.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 7:55 pm

This is Baar Kolstad from Norway. The kid is amazing, and I know what I’m talking about here. I loved everything he did, but I paid special attention to his right foot on the bass drum pedal. Extraordinary.

Teresa alerted me to this after she saw it posted in Harvey’s site.

  1. Feel free to tell me to shut my smug ass up, but on those 16th note runs and the triplet 16ths on the bass drum, he actually has two pedals back there. The left pedal is over by the high hat pedal and has a drive shaft that crosses over to another bass mallet. It’s still effing hard to click off those triplet smears and 16th note runs on a bass drum, none the less.

Kid is good. Has the smoking hi hat street beat groove down tight. The stick flash was cool too.

  2. Check this one out…..

When the camera gets behind and overhead, you can see the second bass mallet working away. He has his hi hat slack to sizzle when his left foot is off them.

Yep, you’re right. Two pedals. Kid sure knows how to use ’em.

  3. That young man can get all the way downtown with it, for sure.

  4. It’s really fun to watch isn’t it. I wish the donation box had not been directly between him and the camera. I kept wanting to tell people to “get out of the way!” heh.

  5. It’s inspiring and quite depressing to watch him play.
I love the one when Baar played “Dog” by Thomas Lang.
