“Vacation” Day.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 9:53 pm

I took a vacation day today. What the hell every happened to using vacation days to actually spend the day taking it easy?

The day began quite normally, with a morning walk, although the temperature was a bracing fifteen degrees, and with the hawk biting, I actually had to pull my watch cap over my ears. It was still good though – except for having to constantly watch the ground directly in front of me to keep from stepping on the ice that was all over the farookin’ place.

The next six hours was spent schlepping around a shopping mall. The crowds were tolerable, but it would not have been my first choice for things to do while on “vacation.” But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Fa la la la la.

Next stop was, yes, the mondo liquor store to lay in the Christmas supplies. I also had to pick up some stuff for the Post. All together, it wound up being two shopping carts worth. They know me well at the mondo liquor store.

As promised in yesterday’s post, I picked up another bottle of 99 Bananas, and one bottle each of 99 Apples and 99 Blackberries (the store did not have 99 Oranges). I tried the 99 Apples, and it is more apple-y than the apple flavored vodkas I have tried (e.g. Friis, Smirnoff), which, again, could permit it to masquerade as something milder than apple-flavored vodka, when, in fact, it is higher in octane (99 proof) than typical vodka (80 proof). I like it fine.

Nothing like a restful “vacation” day.

  1. Ah, the mondo liquor store. I was in Mount Laurel last weekend and went into a wonderful place called Joe Canals. What fun! It was like Disneyland for boozers.

Pennsylvania sure is screwing us on the liquor store thing. Even their ‘superstores’ pale in comparison. Idiots. I feel gypped now.

  2. Have you ever had Hot Damn, or Grape Pucker or Apple Pucker, they are all good. I picked up some favored volka yesterday, coconut and lime.

  3. “They know me well at the mondo liquor store.”

The surprise would have been if you had claimed that the mondo liquor store DIDN’T know you.

    hehehehehehe!

Sorry you had to spend your day off at the mall though – bummer.

I live in the 21st Century, 😉 all of my Christmas shopping has already been done, online, the presents shipped gift wrapped
to my Dad’s address in KY so I don’t have to struggle with them on the plane while flying home.

    I just LOVE technology! LOL

  5. Brave man. I can barely stand to go near a mall even in a non-holiday time, much less around Christmas. Did they bump you and knock you down and then stomp you without saying so much as “excuse me”? Did the groups walking 4 abreast move aside and allow you at least a pitiful single passing space, or just roll over you like a bigass Panzer? Did the cell-yellers make you feel weirdly disconnected and all the more alienated from this bizarre microcosm of consumerist society? Did the Christmas music on the mall’s PA system go in and out of synch as you entered and left various shops, causing shooting pains behind your eyeballs? Sorry, I realize you wrote clearly that the “crowds were tolerable”; I was just having my own little flashback here in your comments.

  6. I’m wit’ you. Unlike every other federal employee on the planet, I fritter my vacay gradually, on multiple days off or mini-vacays, rather than taking off a whole month at the end of the year. I doubt I’ll ever be one of those people who has “use or lose.”
