Wow – very cool indeed. I’ve never been up in a small plane not to mention a glider. I know my husband used to talk about doing it at some point in time… but we haven’t yet.

Now why am I picturing you with a white scarf around your neck and your farookin’ great hair being blown in the breeze. *grin*

Your takeoff sounds like a kid running across a field with kite string in hand. Way cool to fly in one of those things.

Ever been in a hot air balloon? Also soundless (except for the WOOSH of the gas burner) and much, much slower horizontally.

Being a licensed private pilot, airplanes are a love of mine. I took several training flights in gliders while I was in Germany in the mid-70’s. My instructor was literally a “rocket scientist” who often ended up in the US doing developement work for NASA.

It’s a lovely, but not necessarily practical way to fly.

And everything doesn’t HAVE to be practical…

I had a friend take me up in a 2-seater prop plane a couple times, and that was WAY cool, but this sounds even better.
