I just saw this in an email... *grin*

A blonde said, "I was worried that my mechanic might try to rip me off. I was relieved when he told me all I needed was turn signal fluid."

Oh man, are you spot on. I have a regular mechanic who does all of my work for me. I went once to the "Automotive/money seperation facility" and once was enough.
The only thing I am surprised about is why that automaton didn't try to fleece those old timers by telling them that their disgronificator was out of alignment and was available as factory install for only $500....it is a safety issue, ya know.

I've found that the dealer where I bought the SUV will give me a loaner if my bill is high enough (and the down time is long enough), and I throw a mini-fit. They also have a "courtesy van" and will drive me home IF I ASK -- around here, most people don't seem to realize they CAN ask. The dealer'll take you home even during a routine service like oil change, b/c it can take 45 min to an hour at times, even w/ appt. Ugh. I've often been the only one in the van. Rather wait at home, eh? And finally, not to nitpick, Jim, but those areas you keep referring to as "upper" and "lower" waiting rooms are more properly referred to as "circles of hell."

The service writers in most dealerships get paid on a commision of what they sell. I have had them try to tell me I had a bad fan bely a month after I installed a new one as well as the tire bit and brake bit..I think the best one was when I went in for the oil change and they told me all four wheels were bad..I had just had them replaced the day before..the only reason I was at the dealership was that promised me free oil and filter changes as long as I had the new pickup that I bought from them...but I did let the owner of the dealership know when I bought my next new truck why I didn't buy from him and it was the service dept crooks that cost him the sale.

If you can find an independent technician that you can trust you will always get better service and a better deal than from the dealership service deptartments

Sounds suspiciously like the waiting room in Beetlejuice. Most of those unlucky supplicants, if I recall, also had a nasty case of the Dry Rots.
