Rob.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 9:42 pm

It is one year ago today that I learned that my friend Rob died.

I know there are many who would like the world to think that they knew Rob. That’s cool, because if Rob knew that you felt that way by virtue of reading his blog, he would have hoisted a beer or three in your direction.

I had the very good fortune of actually getting to hang with the good brother and, better yet, having the chance to do a bunch of tunes with him and his brother Dave..

Rob, for all his shit-stirring abilities, quite simply, was a gott-damned genius.

He spoke as he wrote, which meant that if you were lucky enough to hear hin speak, you damned well paid attention.

He died way too early and, to my eternal agony, he died before we (the pickers) could all assemble at the Crackerbox to record some excelllent music.

I miss him. Really bad.

  5. I consider myself lucky to have met him and experienced the pickin’ and grinnin’.

He was a good man who died far too soon.

I hope he has found peace. (Or, more accurately, I hope he has found abundant good times and joy.) He certainly deserves it.

  6. used to read Rob all the time. I also miss his wit. Can someone confirm for me that he may have been an extra in the film “walk the line” (Johnny Cash)? There is a guy (prisoner in folsom) that looks exactly him from all the pics I have seen of him in his and other blogs. Thanks

  8. Never having met him, yet having heard and read so much about him by others, I could kick myself in the posterior for not meeting him when I had the chance.

At least you realize how lucky you are to have known him, however briefly.

  9. I stumbled across Rob’s site a couppla months before he died. I was hooked after reading the front page and then spent the next 3-4 days going thru all of the archives. Never got to meet him, but we exchanged a few emails about gardening, and between those and reading his blog, he seemed like a helluva guy I wish I could have met in person.
