What Kind of Dog Would You Be?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 1:21 pm

No, I’m not talking about those silly internet quizzes that ask “What Kind of Dog are You?” in which the reader is faced with several silly questions, the answers to which are matched up by someone (Christ knows who) to the characteristics of various dog breeds. These quizzes are right up there in silliness with “What kind of pie are you?” and “What kind of cheese are you?”

I’m also not talking about the curious (albeit anecdotal) phenomenon of the similarity of the faces of dog owners and their dogs.

I’m talking about some frank and sometimes difficult introspection, taking into account your temperament (as you know it to be) and your appearance in a full-length mirror.

Like most folks, the dog I would like to be and the dog I would be are not the same dog. I would like to answer the question by saying that I would be a tough, formidable Rottweiler, or an almost-regal German Shepherd. Perhaps a handsome Irish Setter (great farookin’ hair), or a sleek, Whippet.

Truth is that when I look in the mirror I must confess that if I were a dog, I would be a Corgi, bulky with short legs — built a bit like a fire plug. It used to bother me that I would be a Corgi, but having seen this little guy in action, I think I’m now OK with my Corginess.

So, fess up! What kind of dog would you be?

P.S. I took the silly quizzes: Dog=Beagle, Pie=chocolate, Cheese=Fiscalini cheddar.

  1. I’m a goofy Labrador Retriever. I know I was one in a past life, anyway. I taught myself to type and poop outside and, well, here I am.

  2. I tell the J.R. that if he can make Pepper Dog love him, then he’ll know a lot more about me: Alpha-aggressive, but skittish from previous abuse, boundless energy in short bursts, um… sturdy all over with a great chest, cute tail, and beautiful markings. Never barks, playfully bites! Loves long walks on the beach and doesn’t like too much attention, but loves being cared for. I’m a Blue Dog!

  3. I refuse to be a dog. If I’m going to be ANY animal, I want to be a cat.

  6. Funny, I always took you for a poodle. Especially when you wear those purdy red ribbons in your hair. The jury’s still out on what kind of a puppy I am, but is almost certain I am some kind of a mutt.

  9. Buck up! There are some benefits to corginess that might not have occurred to you:
    – foxlike facial appreance that speaks to crafty intelligence
    – built low to miss the kicks bound to result from biting commentary
    – dense body mass = looking lighter than you weigh.
    Overall win.

  10. Also, I do confess that I sometimes think my dog resembles a furry baloney and my husband has been known to refer to him as a fat bastard with no legs.

  11. Even though I’m the Alpha Bitch in my house, I’d say I’m like our golden retriever.
Kinda “plump”, sheds a lot, loves to eat, sleep and meet people.
But if I had my way I’d be more like an Irish Wolfhound for sure.

  13. Can’t have a nickname like mine and not have thought about this…
I’m the pet that got dumped by the side of the road. The half feral wiley street dog. I shy away from intamacy at first, show my teeth a lot, but will allow myself to be petted… Remember though, as soon as you corner me I’ll bite you.
I’ll stick around for a meal or two or as long as it’s beneficial, but I’ll never have another master.

  14. A mutt.

It matches my non-conformist nature and walmart wardrobe 🙂

  15. According to the quiz, I’m a Mastif. Not my first choice since I raise Protection German Shepherds. Still, it could be worse…I could have been defined as a Chihuahua!
