Congratulations.

I’d like to take a moment to tip my hat to all the Republicans and the twelve Democrats in the House of Representatives who voted against the so-called “Stimulus Package,” which is nothing more than a big-government Pork Frenzy calculated to increase the size of government, reward political friends and solidify the future political support of the tax takers in the country.

Walk tall.

  1. I was listening to Rush in the car a while ago and he was all over this thing, but also said what you just said, more or less. Plus he pointed out that *most* of the spending in this piece of crap don’t take effect til 2010 — election year 2010 — the point being, “stimulus my ass.” “Porkulus,” I think he’s been calling it. Heh.

  2. Obama and the Dims will have to wear this albatross around their necks alone. Glad the Pubbies stood tall on this one. Amazing, horrible waste! As though the original 700 billion bank bailout wasn’t bad enough. When is the pitchfork and torch march on Washington?

  4. The Republicans have been standing by and watching the economy tank for the last 8 years. Now that it is crashing they still want to sand by and do nothing.

  5. To Bill C.

Go ahead and blame the Republicans. I am guessing that all of this hype about change and hope will eventually swirl down the drain due to the same old policies currently being rehashed by the hold overs from the Clinton administration Obama has brought with him. Three years from now when things are still screwed up you guys will still be hollering about Bush and the Republicans.

Obama wants this to be bipartisan so when the economy tanks and we are left holding the check for a trillion he can say it wasn’t all his or the dems fault.
The Dems do not need the right side of the isle to pass this thing. If they think it is so good then let them take responsibility for it. Why do they need to right except to share the blame when it fails.

All of this stuff about wanting and needing to getting along is a load of crap. I don’t vote for candidates so they can go to Washington and “get along”. I vote for them to go down there and represent my point of view.
Liberals love to talk about accepting different points of view unless of course it is different from their own. Then the holder of the opposing view suddenly becomes an intolerant bigot.

Do yourself a favor and at least try to look through the media hype on this one. We are being told that this bill needs to pass immediately. The economy cannot stand another few days of this mess. If that is the case then tell me why less than 12% of this huge spending bill is being spent in the first two years. How does that help us today? The premiss for the vast majority of spending in this bill is simple. It is post election pay back for the Unions, the Arts, the liberal think tanks and everyone else who helped get the Dems elected.

If the Dems want to payback their friends then so be it. They control the house, the senate and the executive branch. They won it and they can spend our money any way they choose. But please, don’t mislead the public about what your doing and why your doing it. Take all of this pay back pork and present it in the regular appropriations bill not this “emergency stimulus” package.
Of course they are reluctant to do that for obvious reasons. The foremost reason being the next election cycle.

Any Republican Senator who holds his ground and refuses to vote for this ruse has my gratitude. Any Senator who votes for this junk should be road out of town on a rail regardless of what party they represent.

  6. UP-Date

Originally this bill only spent 12 cents on the dollar in the first two years. Now that the public has had a whiff of this thing the Dems have re written the bill and it now spends approximately 74 cents on the dollar in the first two years. The overwhelming majority of it being spent in the last half of year two.

Now this would appear to some as “good news” but, call me cynical if you like doesn’t this coordinate the spending with the next election cycle?

    Pork? still there
