Fabulous Guitar Playing – Old Strings.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 2:08 pm

Last night I saw a performance by Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo, two amazing guitar players. It marked the third time I’ve seen them live. Check out their web pages and You Tube things. Yowza!

Anyway, during the intermission, I asked Vinny Raniolo how often he changes strings, expecting that he would say something like “after every performance or two.” He responded, “I hardly ever change strings. New strings sound too metallic. I like a more mellow sound that comes with well broken-in strings. Sort of like a pair of comfortable shoes.”

I was going to change the strings on my Beloved Gibson, but now I think I’ll wait, although I’d change them in a heartbeat if I could get some magic strings that would allow me to play one tenth as well as Frank or Vinny.

Bottom line: If Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo are performing anywhere near you, go see them. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee it.
