Mr. Peanut, Call Your Office.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 7:55 pm

Speaking of never having eaten a s’more, I am reminded that I personally know two people who have never eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. One of these people identified two more persons who have never eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. None of these people come from countries where peanut butter doesn’t exist (I would never live in such a place). They are all Americans and somehow grew up without ever having eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

As a lifelong lover of peanut butter, I find this shocking.

Is this phenomenon as rare as I think it is, or are there other people out there who have never eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

Are you a person who has never eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

If so, kindly explain yourself.

(Not applicable to people who are allergic to one or more of the constituents of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich).

  2. Is there peanut vodka? It would go great with a sticky Chambord.

  3. I have eaten peanut butter and banana sandwich.
I have eaten peanut butter and mayo and lettuce sandwich.
I have NEVER eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
    Never.
I’m not a jelly person, honestly. Maybe a little raspberry jelly on a well-buttered English muffin. I need more texture than jelly gives, even with those nice crunchy raspberry seeds.
When I eat peanut butter, I need it to be extra crunchy and be warned, I will not lick it off my nose no matter how amusing it may be.

  4. Not eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich should be a felony and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

  5. I eat at least one Peanut Butter and jelly (although lately more often PB and honey) every week.

  6. Peanut butter (crunchy) and jelly (raspberry with seeds) is the only good reason for using cheap white bread.

  7. Hot crispy english muffin with dripping gooey p-nut butter and a dollap of orange marmalade.

toasted bread with a slather of p-nut butter and several slices of hot crispy bacon.

white bread, p-nut butter and grape jelly….the classic

  8. Peanut butter and jelly sammitches were part of my Snot-Nose Years, for sure. I don’t eat much jelly these days. Now, PB and honey… or, even better, PB and bananas… will do it for me.

    PB and Nutella. Yum.

PB and bacon. Gonna have to try that one.

  9. Jimbo,
I was a picky kid. I liked peanut butter sandwiches and I liked jelly sandwiches. But I never liked them together, though I have tried it on occassion. To me, it’s like eating strawberries and tomatoes; they just don’t go together.

BTW, I took a grape jelly sandwich to school every day for 9 years. Not such a fan since then though.

  10. I have eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But only with blackberry jelly. Not strawberry, not grape jelly only my mother’s homemade blackberry jelly. Properly washed down with with a tall glass of cold milk. Good.

  11. Creamy PB and grape jelly on toasted rye bread, the kind with caraway seeds. I think I’ll make one right now.

  12. Just do not like peanut butter except with BLT sandwiches. Otherwise it would just turn moldy before I could even finish a small jar.

  13. Peanut butter and jelly is one of the few ways I will eat peanut butter. I don’t like the cookies, cakes, or pies – but PB&J – certainly.

  14. Hell, I’ll eat peanut butter off the back of my hand if necessary.

I have quit the usual big labels like Skippy or Peter Pan to the natural, no additive brands like Adams Natural to get away from all the sugar and salt. Forced to at first by various health issues. And I must tell you I won’t be returning to the sugary ones. I find the whole peanut/no additives butters so much more nutty and robust taste-wise.

I’ve even ground my own a couple of times. Just a tad bit of sea salt is all you need.

And for those of you who produce inferior crackers -the only true cracker being Nabisco Premium Multigrain Saltines- may your beds be full of bugs. A pox upon your factories. Philistines……..

  15. Andy – agree 100% on the crackers – they are the only ones we buy anymore in the saltine variety. Excellent crackers. I buy some other small whole wheat ones for dipping in hummus… but that’s another post.

  16. I have never eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and never will. Peanut butter and jelly DO NOT go together! Crunchy peanut butter on toast is the only way to go…

  17. Twisted it up, Peanut butter, Jelly & Cream Cheese on French toast.

    Comment by Dave — September 12, 2010 @ 8:13 pm

  18. Crunchy peanut butter on bread? WTF? Why not just pour a bag of Planters peanuts on your bread and eat it? The smooth, creamy mouth feel of the peanut BUTTER and the soft white bread. Mmmmm. Think I just had a religious experience. And, yep, Jimbo, Skippy is STILL the only way to go. The others are too dry, gritty, or tasteless. Right out of the jar with a spoon is perfectly fine with me. 😉

  19. When we were kids…..Peanut Butter & bananas were good …..honest no kidding! Today I have Peanut Butter about once every decade & bananas give me gas, I used to eat an entire bunch when the in-laws were visiting.Nothing like an “Odor Ferocious” gas cloud to get the in-laws to head for home!

  20. PB&J, PB&Bananas… I’m somewhat afraid to try the King’s FRIED PB&Bananas sandwich (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Elvis-Presleys-Hot-Peanut-Butter-and-Banana-Sandwich-232627) that’s got to be a heart-stopper on a plate.

Peanut butter from a spoon, a finger… damn, peanut butter is a GIFT. It’s a Gott-damned American Rite of Passage! I don’t know *anybody* who doesn’t like PB&J (except for one of the people you mentioned, Jimbo)… oh wait… I think my wife doesn’t… erg…

Now… how many of you have tried almond butter or *butters made from other nuts? HMMM?

  21. I don’t much care for PB & J’s anymore, but I could eat one if I had to. Preferably with creamy peanut butter and apple jelly. Maybe honey. Definitely not that marshmallow fluff crap.

  22. Thanks, Jimbo. All day today I’m going to have that song ‘Peanut butter jelly time’ running through my head. Crap.
