What Now?
You may have noticed that I haven’t posted anything for eleven days, as what I write here makes any difference in the big picture, or even the smallest of pictures, for that matter. The reason is that I was and still am in a state of mourning over the November 6th beginning of the end of the Republic. I admit that I was profoundly wrong about how the election would turn out. The polls be damned: I was convinced that the electorate has not become so screwed up that it would give another four years to a guy whose record, by any reasonable measure, has been one of colossal failure.
Yes, I was indeed wrong. I never thought that Americans would vote for this country to become a European-style socialist/welfare state, but that’s exactly what happened. Hell, today I read that, according to some damned exit poll, that, four years into the Obama administration, voters still blamed George Bush for the lousy economy (Well played, Barry), and, even worse, “young people†preferred socialism over capitalism, demonstrating that they could use a bit more time in the library (Well played, public education system).
To those who voted for the end of the Republic, please do me a favor. When you see businesses shrink or close and the economy crater under the weight of a gargantuan federal government spending truckloads of money it doesn’t have on “investments†bullshit programs to buy votes, when you see just how expensive “free†healthcare is, or when The One bypasses Congress and issues Executive Orders you may not like, don’t complain to me. If you do, I will tell you to talk to the hand. Or, maybe talk to the middle finger.
As for the future of this blog, I haven’t decided. There are already numerous blogs that tackle politics, and they do it better than I can. Besides, I am fresh out of patience for maroons who would eventually show up in comments screaming “Hater! Racist!†Maybe some political satire? Truth is, I don’t find anything about the current state of affairs to be even remotely funny.
Hey, maybe I’ll post pictures of my cats, except that I don’t have any cats.
I’ll have to think on it all.

I guess… I saw it coming so I’m resigned. Angry. Afraid for my children. My blog has never been political. It has been my catharsis away from all that I think is wrong… including our government.
I am the most disappointed that the people are so selfish now that they see not what it coming. This 250K tax on the ‘wealthy’ is a new tax on small businesses. It is hard to explain, but an accountant can talk about it more coherently than I can about people being incorporated when they have a small business.
Small businesses will start to lay off. I’ve already suggested to my husband who on his staff he should lay off. I know who she supported. Vindictive of me? No. Let her get what she paid for…
Anyway, I suspected that was why you were gone. I’m so sorry…

With all due respect I don’t see anything wrong with the very rich paying a little more in taxes. They can certainly afford it. We may all have to may more in taxes and accept spending cuts to get this nation back to fiscal health.

Having retired at the end of last semester I was thinking seriously about returning to the states. After this election that has changed. I will remain here and pray that people wake up before our republic is lost and I have no place to come home to.

Maybe that “rich person who could pay a little more” in taxes as you say understands something you do not …..49% of Americans are not paying a dime in Income taxes & he the “rich person who could pay just little more” is paying not only far more then his share but paying for the 49% who are freeloading as well.
The evil rich already saddled with a disproportionate share of the tax load also use their profits to create companies & businesses which hire people looking for work . It is not the Federal Government, the unemployment office or any entitlement program which creates jobs my friend…..it is those you despise & denigrate.
America has committed economic suicide which will impact personal freedoms & destroy the principles this country stood for for over 200 years which made this the greatest country the world has ever seen.
You post maybe we will all have to pay little more in taxes & accept spending cuts in order to get this country back to fiscal health….THAT IS WHAT THIS ELECTION WAS ALL ABOUT!…
Where were you all during Obama`s first term?
Where were you during the primarie`s?
Where were you during the debates?
Where were you during the runup to election?
WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU ON VOTING DAY?
You see Kevin , If everybody paid their fair share & if the Federal Government understood it is the people they serve ,it is not them who the people serve …we would not be having this discussion,there would not be a fiscal problem.
The citizens of this country have a duty to be the watchdogs who assure our freedom,constitutional rights & vote to make sure we have honest representation who serve for our best interests not theirs…..The country failed miserably & you are an example of the stupid fools who made up the 51% who inflicted Obama onto America for another term. The coming four years will be the most disasterous this Country has ever experienced because of the collective stupidity of your group who should have known better.
I started this diatribe off stating you to be as stupid as ever…..I was wrong! You are incredibly stupid & are a goddam fool! God help us all!

I don’t like the idea of raising the taxes on the 2% – reminds me of something from my school days: when they came for the Jews, I did not care (I was not Jewish) when they came for the …etc., then they came for me & no one spoke. (I butchered this, sorry.)

One of the many problems with that 250K rule is that it doesn’t take into consideration of where one lives. For instance, making 250K a year in Athens, TN (sorry Eric)would make one wealthy. It would go far… the biggest house, on the biggest land, with the nicest cars. But 250K in places like NYC… that makes you comfortable, but hardly ‘rich’. If you live in the city, rent is so dang much money.
Anyway, off that.
Jimbo, you are one of the funniest guys I know. There are other things to blog than this country going to hell in a hand basket. You can be our man about town in Jersey.

I’m with Erica. I don’t follow you for your political commentary, or not just your political commentary. I follow your blog because – I enjoy reading what you write. Most of which makes sense or because I agree with it even when it doesn’t make sense (it’s a joisey thing!). I’d hate to see you give it up and will even beg you not to. But I won’t go nasty on you if you decide you’ve had enough (as some did with Camille Paglia and Steven Den Beste). I’ll mourn, but live with it.

November 6 will live in infamy as the day Americans voted with full knowledge that they were signing up for a minimum of four years of decay, downgrade, and decline. Four more years of Chicago crony capitalism with an affirmative action twist. However, life goes on and we need to make the best of it.
I enjoy visiting here and hope you decide to continue. We left Bergen County NJ for coastal NC a quarter century ago and still have kin in several NJ counties. Any NJ news and views and attitudes are welcome and make for good reading.

I have been thinking along the exact same limes as you, Jimbo, and am every bit as depressed about it. This election has proven that 51% of Americans have realized that they can vote themselves goodies. We’ve reached the tipping point. Can we recover? As far as I can see nobody knows. Few seem to care.
Another thing that depresses me is that many “conservatives” have been duped into talking exclusively about taxes as a solution to our economic woes (see comments above). We all know better. Remember? “We don’t have a taxing problem. We have a spending problem” It’s true. Whenever the economy collapses in the future it won’t be because we didn’t tax the rich enough or tweak the tax code correctly. None of that matters when Congress never gets a nickel in new revenue it doesn’t run out and spend two or three times. Any Congress crud that gets in front of the microphones to talk about his new tax plan has zero interest in fixing the real problem and is not our friend. Taxes are all they talk about these days. They know as well as we do that no amount of taxing smoke and mirrors is going to change a thing about this gloomy future we all see. So STOP TALKING ABOUT TAXES and stop listening to the villains and dupes that do!

I am as discouraged as you are. Last week, I changed my voter registration from republican to unaffiliated. I am sick to death of carrying these dolt’s water and hoping for real change in the next election.
