Alligator Feeding Frenzy — Yikes!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 10:02 pm

These two videos certainly loosened my bowels. They show hundreds of alligators in the Okefenokee Swamp engaging in a feeding frenzy (the more genteel term apparently is “cooperative feeding”).

In the first video, two good ol’ boys (clearly not from Jersey) are having a great time piloting their boat through this mass of thrashing alligators. Good Christ!

In the second video, the same two good ol’ boys are laughing at two other people also piloting their boat through the gators, but clearly not enjoying the experience.

The news story is here.

I won’t be going to the Okefarookin’fenokee Swamp any time soon — that’s for shit sure.

Catfish sent me this gem.

  2. You would be okay as long as you stayed in the boat.

  3. I take it you are not a fan of the Great American Alligator.

  4. Aw, Jim, we wouldn’t let ’em eat you.

    Honest!

By the way, the DNR guys pulled a four-foot baby out of our pond last month….

  5. Alligators can tip over a small boat like that. Accidentally or on purpose, the result will be the same. See: Gator hunt turns murky after local couples airboat turns upside down at night.

“Crocodiles are reported to occasionally attack and capsize canoes, kayaks and small local craft, but these are always small, flimsy craft and may be attacked because of their resemblance to a crocodile. Most robust and stable craft of modern construction, even small jon-boats, should be safe.”

  6. That’s certainly enough to loosen one’s bowels.

There is No Frickin’ Way I’d wanna be in a boat in that canal, unless maybe it was a nuclear-powered submarine. As Carl points out, a small boat is no match for a bunch of pissed-off gators.

  7. I remember some time back it was claimed the alligators were endangered &”Poof” a ban on hunting them for food, fun & leather was put in place.Well, I sure am glad the Environmentalists went to their aid …..it sure would be a shame to not be able to see one of these adorable creatures up close & personal. Yeah! Right!

A whole bunch farther North & a slightly colder, the endangered Polar Bears are 5 times as numerous as they were when a ban was put in place to rescue them. They seem to be spreading inland in some areas …..I have the same feeling about being in close contact with them also.

I wonder how long it will be until the Gators & Polar Bears arrive in Pennsylvania or will they arrive in Jersey first.

    Sleep Tight Jim!

  9. …. I watched those videos the other day and immediately thought of you…. personally, I think it’d be pretty cool to pilot the boat through a mass of thrashing gators….. maybe catch us one for our supper…..
