Nuttin’ Yesterday.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 3:36 pm

I didn’t post anything yesterday, because I had no internet access. I thought it would return in the normal course as it often does. It didn’t, and this morning we also had no phone service (both brought to you by Comcast). After enduring several prompt-ridden phone calls, I learned from a real person that my modem had to be “reset.” I cannot help but wonder what caused the modem to become “unset” in the first place. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t something I said.

Anyway, I schlepped upstairs to where the modem is to “reset” it. Wouldn’t you think that in a sane world there would be a button on the front of the modem that says, “Reset”? No such luck. I was crawling around on the floor sticking a bent paper clip into a teeny weeny hole in the back of the modem. Amazingly, the bent paper clip in the little hole fixed my internet and telephone problem.

There are just so many things I don’t understand.

  1. I’ll tell you man, I dumped my land line about four years ago…have never missed it…no problems…100% cell. I use Time Warner for cable connectivity, never had a problem. I hear a bunch of people have problems with Comcast…I will tell you one thing…when you have to bust out a paper clip, you need to start looking for something more stable. “reset” means the idiot on the other end of the line has no clue. Probably a shovel ready job for a cave man.

  2. I also have Time Warner. When I first got my computer there were a couple of times I had to call them and there is a thin black cable that comes into the bottom of the modem that I was told to “unplug, count to 15 slowly and replug”—voila, it works !!!! Surely was easier than all the hassle you went through !!!!

  3. OT, but just a reminder that the Acidman passed away five years ago today.

  4. It is not un-common to have to reset these once in a great while. If you are having to do it with any regularity, thats another thing totally. Just be glad there wasn’t a router in-line, then theres a definate order in whih you have to reset it.
