“Number 9, Number 9, Number 9″

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 9:18 pm

Well, November 27th came and went. On that day, I wrote a short blog about putting up the Christmas tree, when I should have remembered that on November 27th this blog had its ninth birthday. It’s not so much a cause for celebration as it is for a bit of reflection.

In 2002, blogging was hot stuff. It seemed that damned near everyone who owned a computer started a blog. Nine years later, I wonder if blogging has jumped the shark, particularly for the regular person, non-corporate, no-advertising blogger.

For example, on my sidebar, there are 91 blogs/bloggers listed under “Peeps I’ve Met.” By my count, 48 of them are no longer blogging and 13 of them post only once in a blue moon. Many of them have abandoned their blogs in favor of engaging regularly in Facebookery and Tweetery. That’s fine, but it is a bit sad when people I know who are very creative and can write very well have descended into offerings such as “At the supermarket. Needed toothpaste.”

That’s not to say that this space, of late, has been any more interesting than a Facebook status update of the “Who-Really-Gives-a-Shit” variety. We’ll see what this year brings.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

  1. I’m pretty sure I should wish you a happy anniversary, but for some reason this post made me feel not so happy. Keep on truckin’, Hairboy. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t know what a “dewemplin” is. And who else would I call a “dooshbag?” It just doesn’t fit anyone as poifectly as it does you.

  2. Well, gee, I was gonna say happy anniversary, but after reading Erica’s comment I’m not so sure. So I’ll just say that longevity is an indicator of … something …

  4. You’re quintessential Jersey, Jim. While others fall by the wayside, you keep truckin’ along down that virtual turnpike…

    Congrats on the anniversary!

  5. Happy Anniversary! And of course we read you! Your blog is one of the high spots that I read almost every day. You make me laugh, you make me think, and you have introduced me to a whole group of other bloggers that I cannot miss. Nine years is pretty darn impressive, if you ask me! Keep it going, please!

  8. Jimbo, this is my number one blog to visit every evening. I can check NRO, American Spectator, etc. But, this is the blog that makes me laugh out loud. Thanks for being here.

  10. I like your blog. You post on things that appeal to a wide audience.
I’d blog but I live in a rather boring area of the country. It’s just pine and palmetto for as far as the eye can see. The only excitement is redneck distillers in hopped up Pontiacs getting chased by FL revenue agents in even hoppier Fords. So both of our dealerships are hoppy, er, happy.
So thank the Lord you’re blogging, expecially about the music you play, and encounter.

  15. You’ve got a year and a half on me.

What I like about blogging is that the people who read your stuff read it because it’s interesting – because it speaks to them or at least reveals something about you. Facebook is fine, but it’s not the same – it’s a way to keep up with people whom you have selected to be your “ffriends.”

Blogging brings people together that otherwise would never have the chance to form an acquaintance… or even a friendship.

Jimbo, keep on blogging. As long as it’s fun, that is. Neither of us is doing it for a paycheck – if it ain’t fun, fuck it.
