I Get an “F” in Proofreading.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 6:25 pm

Only today, after what must be a year and a half or more and hundreds of clicks, did I notice that Eric’s site appeared on my Blogroll as “Straignt White Guy”.

I think I may be the world’s worst proofreader. When I was a judicial clerk, part of the job was to proofread the judge’s opinions before they went to the publisher. One clerk would read while the other followed. I was a bad reader (I read right through mistakes) and I was even a worse follower. The only way we would be sure to catch all the typos was to read the opinion backwards calling out every punctuation mark and every capital letter and every word. It was not fun, but it worked.

There is no way that I’m reading my posts backward, so please forgive me for the occasional typo. I think it’s a question of brain wiring.

Still, in a year and a half, I should have noticed that Eric is not the “Straignt White Guy.” Yep, brain wiring.

  1. .. hey, man… I’m Southern.. you were closer than most around here…

  2. I think you must be a fast reader. I am too. They tend not to “see” mistakes easily. I’m always typing my own first name wrong when signing work e-mails, and one of my co-workers now refers to me as Lynen, one of my more common typos.

  3. I’m surprised that the smirking troll PJ from my site isn’t all over you for this example of your sheer stupidity. When nobody applauds his leftist, wing-nut brain farts, he resorts to spell-checking people who disagree with him.

See? If you have a typo in the post, you’re a MORON, and he just shot down everything you wrote because HE found you spelling “the” as “teh” somewhere in the post. What an asshole.

I agree with Eric. If it’s a link to my site and it works, I don’t give a damn how you spell it.

  4. My dear, I have a spellchecker and I still manage to spell things wrong! Not to mention the fact that once you put the blogroll in place… you tend not to look carefully at the ones that are there even if you use it to surf! If you read down your blogroll like I do, you’re looking for the S – W – G instead of at the whole thing. But no matter how you spell it – if you can get to Eric’s place… all is well. *grin*

  5. You know, I mis-spelled my brother’s name on my blogroll for a couple months.

  6. That “backward” is an old one that many proofreaders use still today, particularly if you are able to disassociate content and context from your ‘reading’ of the words. MB has a couple of writers she edits that require that kind of proofing !!
