Jimbo the Arteest.

I call this one ………….

MY DECK

Since I have learned to take pictures with Mr. Cell Phone (a bit of very comical trial and error), I have been taking pictures of goofy shit. Then it occurred to me, Yo, Jimbo, lots of people think goofy shit is art. Maybe you’re a farookin’ arteest?

Hell, last time I thought I was an arteest, I flung a bunch of paint all over a queen size bedsheet, you know – just like Jackson Pollock. Problem was, everyone said that it looked like a drop cloth (shhhhhh).

There may be something to this photography thing, though. I’m thinking about buying a fancy schmancy digital camera with lots of bigass lenses so I would need one of those really cool carrying around cases and then quitting my day gig to go around with my fancy schmancy camera and my cool-as-a-moose carrying case taking pictures of goofy shit and making zillions of dollars.

Then again, maybe I ought to just take some pictures of drop cloths and keep my day gig.

  1. That rules! You have so much talent, I can barely keep the food I’m chewing inside my maw. And the grass peeking out from underneath “MY DECK”, which adds that extra splash of color — but not too much…genius!

I’m in ore of you. (I’ve always wanted to say that)

  2. Geez, these supposed commenters of yours obviously don’t know Great Art when they see it. I thought you’d have hundreds of responses by now, and at least a couple a dozen viable offers to purchase framed and autographed copies of the damned thing.

  3. I’ve been working… just finished up for the night and what do I find… Jimbo serving up nice soothing deck pictures. However, you never know what evil lurks under decks. This picture needs the “shadow of foreboding”. Otherwise it’s quite the slick presentation. National Geographic would take it in heartbeat. *grin*

  4. That fancy schmancy digital camera gets you places. You may even make it into the snake pit in Claxton!

    Or Gator World…

  5. Ironically, you’ve captured someone else’s artistry. It’s far more common to see two nails per board in deck construction but this deck has three. Masterful construction.

  6. …. I think you’ve got a screw loose, brother… check that one right in the middle….

  7. Suzette,

He truly was a Meister. Them are screws, and I gotta check on that one that might be loose. Jimbo and a screwdriver … not a pretty picture.

  8. I never knew you had such a big deck. The girls must love it.

  9. screw spacing is slack, must have been made in Jersey. They don’t know how to screw correctly is seems.

  10. Some truly fine Art! I would have added shaodws or some small object, maybe a screwdriver, to attempt a more interesting work of art. But, I truly appreciate the simple beauty you have captured and with a telephone yet. Very impressive! Most photographers I know prefer a camera. You Jersey guys have so much talent that the equipment does not hinder your creativity a bit. I can’t wait for the next “object or Art”.

  11. I got one that looks a lot like it except I keep the weeds out from under it with Round-up.

It is always good to have a deck or a porch just in case Hilary visits..she can sleep under it..

  12. That is not grass peeking out from below the deck, that is fungi(grenia moldi humongous) attached to the sides of each board. Us Oregonians know it well. Don’t come to Oregon if you hate mold and fungi and planners.

  13. Like Teresa said, I find it soothing in its un-selfconscious deck-i-ness. I feel I’ve grown somehow having viewed it. Thank you.

  14. That looks like a sturdy deck. But then again the camera adds 20 lbs.

  16. My vote is for a series of photos of your hair at the end of each day from fresh haircut to day before next haircut.
