How Long.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim @ 4:29 pm

I’ll tell you how long. It’s been a long damned time since hearing a song for the first time stood the hair up on the back of my neck. This one did it for me.

There is so much great stuff going on in this song, it makes my brains fall out. For those peeps who appreciate the way a fine song is built, I recommend you just LISTEN to it a few times before you risk being distracted by the video.

Damn, that’s a good one.

  1. First, for cryin’ out loud gather your brains back up….this world is too dark for us to lose those!

Next, I love listening to a song the way you described. It’s a tapestry, all woven together – each part beautiful in it’s own right, but together…..wow.

However, no sound on this computer I’m on so I’ll have to bookmark for later.

Damn…..I was really in the mood for some GREAT music!

  2. I dunno, Jimbo. It is typical Eagles set to 3:20 in length to guarantee Classic Rock radio airplay.
There is nothing groundbreaking here except that the Eagles have a new record out.
That being said, I do enjoy Joe Walsh’s guitar playing and I think even though the band is the master of the 4 part harmony back up vocals, Timothy B. Shmidt has the strongest of the background vocals and is a joy to listen to.
The Eagles have a good problem. They make such good music that there isn’t too much room left to grow to. The arrangements are strong, the playing is strong and the vocals are strong…..the good news is the bad news in that the Eagles new record sounds like it could have also been on The Long Run or Hotel Calfornia. It’s a problem that as a musician I would love to have.

  5. It’s a great song, no doubt, and Glenn Frey sounds as awesome as ever, too, but I’ve never been able to get into Don Henley’s voice…he was always my least favorite Eagle.

When I was not yet old enough to dominate the airwaves in our household, all we listened to in the house were my Mom’s eight tracks of The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkel, and Dusty Springfield.

Can you say Peaceful Easy Feeling? It was freakin’ Soft Rock City, until I discovered Led Zeppelin and The Who in junior high.

  7. Good Eagles. It’s nice to see more Glenn Frey vocals and less Henley. Good harmonies and good lead guitar by Joe Walsh.
