“This is Your Captain Speaking.”

I’d like to think that the guy who flew this plane would be the person saying those words during my next flight.

  1. I am thinking a change of pants was required.

  2. I’ve watched it three times, and each time I say, “he did NOT!!”

But them little bug-sprayers got quite a bit of torque. I live about 4 miles south of the airport that hosts an acrobatic aeronautics team and see them practice all the time. I’d fly anywhere with ’em!

  3. Of course this was faked. It’s an advertisement for the logo on the wing. I believe the real incident which inspired this was this one, which I think is not a fake.

The difference between little aircraft and big ones is a matter of relative strength (in landing), and in pounds per square foot (when flying without a wing).

Relative strengths go up the square of length but weights go up as the cube. So big planes are weak. Wing loading is weight per square foot and the same applies. We’re astounded by the flying of big birds, not the little insects.

  4. Carl, you are a rascal. I clicked that link. 🙂

Speaking of flying, I read somewhere that it is aerodynamically “impossible” for a bumble bee to fly. Good thing no one ever gave that bad news to the bumble bees of the world.
